Im having trouble installing minecraft mods?

i cant find any help. i do what tutorials say and its all garbage . i cant find out how to download any mods. i delete meta inf and clear out minecraft jar but for some reason it keeps going to a black screen and minecraft doesnt load.i got this game LEGALLY.
