Missing bootinfo.inf for windows xp?

ok, my windows xp laptop wasnt working so i messed with it and restored it, while it was restoring it said their was an error so it rebooted and when it started back up it say the file is corrupt or missing ( bootinfo.inf or something like that). i have windows xp and its a laptop without a cd slot so i cant boot it from that. please help!
